Wellbeing Walk - 15th September; 9am starting from Sankey Valley Visitor Centre, Blackbrook

Wellbeing Project Volunteer - Kerri Organises a Wellbeing Walk - 15th September

My own experience of mental illness has increased my awareness of the subject and how many people are affected by it. By recently becoming a volunteer with the Wellbeing Project in St Helens, I am beginning to learn that focusing my attention outwards can be a huge help to me. I want to help raise awareness of mental illness and educate people about the effects mental illness has on those experiencing it, as well as their families and friends. I also want to help reduce the stigma attached to it and help to encourage those experiencing mental illness to become actively involved in community activities that will help them.

I have organised two sponsored walks to help raise funds for the Wellbeing Project, and to help raise awareness of mental illness. There will be a 3.5 mile walk and a 10 mile walk, both leaving from Sankey Valley Country Park Visitor Centre (Blackbrook) at 9am, on Saturday 15th September, 2007. I am also hoping to link the walks in with National Suicide Prevention Day (10th September) to raise the general awareness of suicide and suicide prevention.
