October's 'Top Tip' for a Flourishing 2008!

The Public Health Delivery Team is offering a 'top tip' every month in 2008 to enhance your mental health and to help you to make this year a happy and healthy one.

October's top tip is: ‘Accept your friends as they are’.

Feeling good about your self and other people is an important aspect of positive mental health.

The way that we treat other people can affect the way that people feel about themselves.

Learning to accept other people as they are will protect mental health for everyone.

Research shows that accepting other people as they are can improve everyone’s mental health.

Here are some ways you can learn to accept others as they are:

· List 10 things you like about a friend or family member and celebrate these.
· Tell your friends and family how much they mean to you.
· Praise your children for their achievements at school.
· Send a friend or family member a card and say how much you care for them.
· Send a nice text message to someone you know to let them know you care.
· Be tolerant of other people and avoid making assumptions about people who may appear different to you.
