August's Top Tip for a Flourishing 2008!

August’s Top Tip: Eat together

The Public Health Delivery Team is offering a 'top tip' every month in 2008 to enhance your mental health and to help you to make this year a happy and healthy one.

August's top tip is: ‘Eat together’.

Coming together around the dinner table, to enjoy a meal, and one another’s company is a great way of socialising.

Socialising with friends and family is good for your mental health.

Socialising combats isolation and helps us to feel valued and supported by members of our community.

Research shows that socialising can improve your mental health.

Here are some ways to socialise and eat together:

·  Arrange a reunion with friends from work or college and go out for a meal.
·  Go out to your local café with work colleagues during your lunch break.
·  Take a picnic to the park with your children.
·  Invite family or friends around for a meal and try your hand at cooking!
·  Make a meal for friends and neighbours who may be frail and unable to get out and about and take it to them.
