April’s Top Tip: Talk about a problem
The Health Improvement Team in St Helens is offering a 'top tip' every month in 2008 to enhance your mental health and to help you to make this year a happy and healthy one.
April's top tip is: ‘Talk about a problem'.
Talking things over is really important.
Make time to talk to someone you can trust about any problems you may have. This is a helpful way of managing difficult situations.
If you prefer not to talk with friends or family then your GP is a good source of help. Research shows that talking things over can improve your mental health.
Here are some ways you might go about talking things through:
• Arrange to meet up with friends at your local café.
• Make an appointment to go and see your GP.
• If you are a young person (aged 11-25) in Halton & St Helens you can contact Kooth an online counselling service www.kooth.com
• If you are a young man (aged 15-35) in Halton & St Helens you can contact CALM for free on 0800 58 58 58 (Tues - Sat, 5pm – 12am)
• If you are experiencing feelings of distress or despair you can contact Samaritans free, 24 hours a day on 08547 90 90 90
